Welcome to The Morrison Stables

A cosy 2 bedroom guesthouse for accomodation in Geelong. Includes wifi, split system heating/cooling and secure off street parking. The street is incredibly quiet considering the close (walking distance) proximity of Geelong's CBD, Waterfront and GMHBA stadium.

Exposed brick with cathedral ceiling, the stables have retained much of their heritage character and charm. The small kitchenette includes a basic cooktop, oven and cookware, bar fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave - however guests are encouraged to take advantage of the many nearby restaurants, cafes and delivery options.

Both bedrooms feature Queen beds fitted with quality stonewashed linen, supima cotton towels and wardrobes with plenty of storage for a comfortable stay.

A comfy couch, smart TV, bluetooth speaker and novels on hand ensure you can unwind inside the stables; however with so much on offer close by, you probably wont spend much time sitting around!

A PIECE OF GEELONG HISTORY

The guesthouse is converted from the original stables of the Rosemary Branch Hotel. Built in 1855, the pub has changed hands (and occupations) many times, and is amongst the oldest buildings in Geelong.

In 1876, a fire destroyed all but the exterior walls of the building. The proprietor at the time (Thomas Lockwood) built a temporary bar in order to continue serving customers. When the wind changed suddenly, a damaged wall fell onto the temporary structure, injuring Lockwood who later died. With sympathy for the wife and large family, the local community raised money for the repair of the hotel, and his widow and several daughters are listed amongst the later licensees, keeping the pub in the family for years after.

The original painted signage can be seen faintly around the building today, including "Rosemary Branch Hotel", "Lockwood's Hotel" and "Glynn's Hotel". By 1930 it was no longer functioning as a pub, and became a grocer (G Griffiths Fruit and Vegetable). In later years it was the McColl's trucking yard (who used the stables for truck repairs), before being purchased in the 1980's by a local architect who converted the property into his family residence.

Now home to our family, we love living in such a special place and are thrilled to offer the separate (and private) stables to guests.
